Last year's No.8 draft pick Daniel Curtin put in arguably his most complete performance in the SANFL in an exciting preview of the future.

The key defender played a bit higher up the ground on Saturday, gathering 30 disposals, seven marks and even kicking a goal.

"His ability to intercept mark, his ability to run off, there are not too many big fellas that can take off the way that he does," SANFL assistant coach Matthew Wright said afterwards.

Jordon Butts made a successful return from a hamstring injury with 16 touches and seven marks, while Lachlan Murphy also made his comeback after a knee problem to grab 14 touches and seven marks.

Midfielder Harry Schoenberg continued his return from an Achilles injury with 23 disposals, eight tackles and seven clearances, while forward Chris Burgess capitalised on some good work up the ground with four goals from seven kicks.

2023 draftee Oscar Ryan also impressed with 23 disposals, with Zac Taylor kicking a goal from 21 touches.

Veteran Jarryd Lyons kicked the last goal of the game to give Brisbane a nine-point win in a classic local derby.

The 31-year-old, who has been on the fringes of the senior side this season, was instrumental in the victory, racking up 23 disposals, six tackles and nine clearances as the Lions stormed home.

Pick No.31 in last year's draft, Logan Morris, kicked two goals from 15 touches, while Harry Sharp also booted two majors from his 21 disposals.

Developing ruckman Henry Smith gathered 20 disposals, had 16 hitouts and kicked a goal, with former Hawk Brandon Ryan also getting on the scoresheet.

Category B rookie Bruce Reville was his side's leading disposal winner with 24, with Jaxon Prior (18), Shadeau Brain (18) and James Tunstill (17) also getting their hands on the ball.

It wasn't a great day for Carlton's VFL side as it went down by 101 points to Geelong, with only a handful of senior Blues in action.

Last year's second round draft selection Billy Wilson was the busiest senior-listed player, finishing with 22 disposals.

Category B rookie Domanic Akuei found the ball 15 times, while Ashton Moir kicked one goal from 11 touches.

Teenage ruckman Hudson O'Keefe had 14 hitouts and six disposals, with fellow rookie ruckman Alex Mirkov contributing with 10 taps and seven touches.

Rob Monahan (seven disposals) and Harry Lemmey (six) were the only other senior players on the ground.

Young midfielder Finlay Macrae put his hand up once again for a senior recall after a standout game in Collingwood's 12-point loss.

Macrae had 30 disposals, six clearances, four tackles and a goal but it wasn't enough to lift his team over the line.

Ash Johnson impressed at both ends of the ground and booted two goals from 18 touches, while Josh Carmichael and Jack Hutchinson also slotted two majors.

Charlie Dean had 23 dsposals and six marks, with Lachlan Sullivan (19 and a goal), Jakob Ryan (17) and Tew Jiath (17) also solid contributors.

Youngster Ed Allan had 16 touches, while Oleg Markov had 15 and Joe Richards 14 and a goal.

Exciting young gun Elijah Tsatas was everywhere as he lifted his team to a thrilling win over the Magpies.

The 19-year-old was unstoppable all day, gathering 39 disposals, five clearances and three tackles in the 12-point victory.

Dylan Shiel continued his comeback from injury with a goal from 23 disposals, with last year's No.54 draft pick Archie Roberts also impressing with 21 touches, eight tackles and two majors.

Luamon Lual had 18 disposals, as did ruckman Nick Bryan, who also had 36 hitouts.

Matt Guelfi made his return from a calf strain to gather 15 tches and a goal.

Veteran Gary Rohan kicked four goals in Geelong's 101-point win over Carlton in the VFL on Saturday.

Apprentice ruckman Toby Conway responded to being dropped by kicking three goals from 20 disposals, 28 hitouts and six clearances just three days after his 21st birthday.

Fellow big man Shannon Neale (16 disposals, 10 marks) also kicked three goals, mature-age draftee Shaun Mannagh (16 disposals) kicked two, as did rookie Ted Clohesy (26 disposals).

Mitch Hardie was the Cats' main ballwinner with 29 disposals, along with 10 marks and five clearances, Emerson Jeka had it 22 times and also had 10 marks, while Mitch Knevitt finished with 24 touches, five clearances and a goal.

Jhye Clark was busy with 22 disposals, Irishman Oisin Mullin (17 disposals) kicked one goal, as did Connor O'Sullivan (19 disposals) and Lawson Humphries (20 disposals).

Veteran defender Jed Bews (17 disposals), George Stevens (18) and Oscar Murdoch (11) were the other senior Cats in action.

Ben Long continued his fine form at state league level, kicking three goals from 19 touches in Gold Coast's five-point win over Port Melbourne on Saturday.

Big forward Levi Casboult (14 disposals) also kicked three goals, while Jy Farrar and rookie Lloyd Johnston kicked two each.

Alex Sexton has also been setting the VFL on fire and had another big outing with a game-high 33 disposals along with 12 marks.

Ned Moyle is keeping as much pressure as possible on Jarrod Witts, picking up 24 touches, 35 hitouts and a dominant 11 clearances.

Former Tiger Brandon Ellis was busy with 23 disposals and one goal, Bodhi Uwland had 21 touches and eight marks, and Caleb Graham had 17 disposals and a dozen grabs.

James Tsitas and Hewago Oea each had 17 disposals, Oscar Faulkhead had it 13 times, and Alex Davies kicked one goal from 15 disposals.

Rookie trio Will Rowlands (eight disposals), Sandy Brock (eight) and Jack Mahony (three) rounded out the Suns in action.

Giants veteran Nick Haynes pushed his case for senior selection with a 35-disposal, 17-mark performance against North Melbourne.

Ruck Nick Madden dominated in the middle, recording 33 hitouts, 31 disposals, 14 clearances and seven tackles. Fellow big man Lachie Keeffe starred up forward with four goals from 12 disposals.

Conor Stone and Max Gruzewski were handy in front of the big sticks, kicking three goals each, with the latter also managing six clearances.

Josh Fahey was everywhere, racking up 39 touches and 10 marks.

Wade Derksen was a pillar in defence with his 13 marks and 23 touches, while Harry Rowston was busy with 24 disposals and two clearances.

In his return from a hamstring injury, Isaac Cumming was solid with 21 touches and eight marks.

Ryan Angwin was handy around the ball with five clearances and 16 disposals, while Toby McMullin had 20 touches and six tackles.

Ruckman Braydon Preuss was a late withdrawal after appearing to hurt his hamstring as the Giants ran onto the ground.

Hawthorn's Sam Butler suffered a serious broken leg in Box Hill's win over Sydney on Sunday, with the forward leaving the ground in an ambulance in the third quarter.

Butler hit the turf after a contest in the forward pocket, with teammates immediately calling for medical assistance. Play was held up by around 30 minutes while Butler received treatment before he was taken away in the hands of medical staff. Senior coach Sam Mitchell later confirmed Butler had suffered a broken leg that will rule him out for the rest of the season.

The injury took some gloss off Box Hill's 27-point win, with the Hawks surging after Butler's injury to kick nine of the last 13 goals of the match.

Callum Porter dominated in midfielder with 30 disposals to go with nine tackles and 10 clearances, while Callum Brown (28 disposals) also had plenty of the footy.

The highlight of the day for the Hawks was the return of veteran Chad Wingard, who kicked two goals in his first game since suffering a serious Achilles injury last year.

Calsher Dear also kicked two goals (and four behinds), while Ethan Phillips had a big day with 10 marks to go with his 16 disposals

Henry Hustwaite (a goal, seven tackles and 22 disposals) and Max Hall (26 disposals, five tackles and a goal) also impressed for the Hawks.

Shane McAdam has made an impact in his first game in Demons colours, kicking three goals and taking a hanger in Casey's loss to Richmond on Wednesday.

McAdam, who was recruited from Adelaide last year but has been sidelined by injury so far this season, kicked three majors from 11 disposals and caught the eye with some high flying.

Josh Schache also kicked three goals (and three behinds) to go with 10 marks, while Tom Fullarton impressed after an injury-hit start to his time at the Demons since he arrived from Brisbane. The former Lion kicked two goals to go with 25 touches, eight marks, six hitouts and six clearances.

In defence, Adam Tomlinson led all players with 37 disposals and a whopping 15 marks, while Marty Hore had 19 touches in his first game back from a thumb injury.

Veteran wingman Lachie Hunter had 23 disposals and six tackles while Koltyn Tholstrup, who made his senior debut in round five, had 12 disposals, five tackles and five clearances.

Veteran Ben Brown, who was dropped from the senior side this week, went goalless from seven disposals, including five in the last quarter.

Curtis Taylor was the Roos' best in their 27-point loss to GWS, with 24 touches and a goal.

Veteran Liam Shiels was also busy with five clearances, 10 tackles, 23 disposals and a goal.

Key forward Tyler Sellers kicked three goals after being dropped from the senior side this week, while defender Toby Pink took eight marks and had 16 disposals.

Out-of-favour small forward Jaidyn Stephenson kicked two goals, as did untried key forward Finnbar Maley, who also had three clearances while rotating through the ruck.

Jackson Archer had 15 disposals and four tackles, while Miller Bergman had 22 and one clearance.

Francis Evans was the busiest of the handful of Port Adelaide senior-listed players in action in the SANFL on Saturday, gathering 15 disposals, eight tackles and kicking one goal in the 18-point loss to Norwood.

Lachlan Charleson also slotted a goal from 11 disposals.

Ruckman Dante Visentini had nine disposals, 24 hitouts and eight tackles, keeping himself in the AFL equation while Ivan Soldo sits out with a knee injury.

Will Lorenz also had nine disposals and laid five tackles, while fellow 2023 draftee Tom Anastasopoulos had eight disposals and six tackles.

Project key forward Tom Scully kicked one goal and key defender Kyle Baldwin had just two touches.

Ryan Burton, Jed McEntee and Tom Clurey were left out of the game after several injuries in the AFL side's match with St Kilda.

Tyler Sonsie and Jacob Koschitzke staked their claims for senior recalls after starring in Richmond's 20-point win over Casey on Anzac Day Eve.

Koschitzke starred up forward, booting four goals from 14 disposals while also having nine hitouts.

Luke Parker looks set to return to Sydney's senior side against Greater Western Sydney next week, with the veteran dominating at VFL level on Sunday in his return from a broken arm.

Parker finished with a game high 34 disposals, six tackles and five clearances in Sydney's 27-point loss to Box Hill.

The midfielder has not played at AFL level this season after injuring his arm during a pre-season game but looks certain to play the Giants at the SCG on Saturday.
